American Villa is a project of residential architecture. Designed in accordance with the customers’ requirements, its main stake has become convenience. The house had to be spacious and flooded with light. To ensure this we installed large windows in the southern part of the house. Namely due to the fact that we opted for several windows instead of just one panoramic, it ensured not only an effect of airy space, but an openwork play of shadows.
The entire project is divided into two wings. This conditioned its dynamic volumetry. We designed a portal between those two parts of the house. The empty space created along the entire height of the two levels emphasizes the sense of ephemerality of the building. At the same time, the portal becomes a central element around which the rest of the project unfolds. Volumetric play is supported by asymmetry.
The portal also serves as an accent element of the style. Using it, we brought a touch of topicality to the sober concept requested by the client. We designed two wings using the shapes and materials characteristic of the classical style, but to avoid boring forms, however, we deviated from its strict canonicity. This is how the windows taking the full height and asymmetry appeared. It is namely this aesthetically ideal context where the portal intervenes with its transparency and minimalist lines. This makes the entire building having characteristic classical details modern.
Those three levels provide future residents with all the premises necessary for everyday life and not only. We relied on practical and functional partitioning. Premises with various destinations: for storage, technical use and relaxation were arranged in the basement. The ground floor was preserved for the day area, the office and matrimonial bedroom, and the first floor for the other bedrooms. The entire building was designed to meet the needs of the modern lifestyle.
